A method for evaluating the level of size deterioration and metallization of iron ores is provided by the BS ISO 11257:2022 standard. The standard is created especially for assessing these parameters under circumstances that resemble shaft direct-reduction procedures. 

Both hot-bonded pellets and lump ores are subject to the standard. The low-temperature reduction-disintegration index, which gauges the degree of size reduction or disintegration that takes place throughout the reduction process, is what is being determined. The standard also assesses the level of metallization, or the transformation of iron oxides into metallic iron.
